Healing Bound

African Dancer- Ayodeji Ayeola

“African Dancer” by Ayodeji Ayeola

The foot feels the foot
when the foot feels the ground.
Reality sets in;
the pain is profound.
Foot one before foot two
and a quickly twirl around.
Step one and then step two;
healing bound.

Today is Another Day

Grillo

Painted by Yusuf Grillo

Today is another day;
today is an other day.
Tomorrow will become yesterday,
a brand yesterday,
if you don’t take new steps today.

Take four steps to grow,
take three steps to heal,
take two steps to love,
take a step to part ways
with today’s yesterday.

Thing 1 & 2

Osun (Giseli Magalhães)

Osun [Giseli Magalhães]

Thing 1 was not thirsty,
but I offered him a drink.
He drank till my cup was empty
and threw me in me to sink.

I struggled back to shore,
you can bet that I was sore,
but Thing 2 grabbed me by my finger,
and told me his intentions were pure.

The river of love is full again,
the river of love is me,
but Thing 2 is still famished,
’cause my cup was smashed at sea.

So tell me, ìyá mi ‘Kojú,
help me make my strength from you.
How do you tell yourself that Thing 1
is everything but nothing like Thing 2?

The Only Constant Thing

Who says the only constant thing is change?
My belly hurts from trying to hold back my laughter,
because even change isn’t always constant.

Sometimes, when you don’t want Change,
when you are sincerely happy with where you are,
and the things you have,
she looks for you and disrupts your house, anyway,
whether or not she has a new one ready.

Many times, when you seek change,

you don’t always get it;
you yearn for it and look for it
but you don’t always find it.

Change closes her eyes when you need her most
and pretends to be legally blind,
and so, even change isn’t constant or stable.
You can’t hold your breath for her,
put all your eggs in her basket,
or put your trust in her.

The only constant thing
is nothing.

My Only Regret

a_bird_in_a_cage_by_sebowebo-d5esu3r

The only regret that I have
is having regrets-
regretting things that I had
not even attempted yet,
hating myself for making mistakes,
for not being able to change
the things that I couldn’t,
thinking that things end because
they should never have been,
killing myself for wanting to live.

En dehors de ce regret,
je ne regrette rien.

Decide Now

Emit a change;
it’s high time.
Come to your senses;
I’m losing mine.
Make up your mind;
I mind.
There’s only so much
that I can take;
wake.

I Still Love You

withering sunflower

My darling sunflower,
you’ll always be my flower,
with or without the sun.

Phoenix

Cry if you need to,
so you can laugh.
Bleed if you need to,
so you can heal.
Destroy if you need to,
so you can (re)build.
Let certain things die
if they need to,
so you can live.

Life is a Chance

Sky

Adore the sky while you can,
gaze at the moon and stars,
for they’ll be gone by the morning.

Life is a chance;
take it.

Possessed

Man Painting

He fell in love with her;
she possessed him.
He said things he would never say
and wrote things he would never write.
He saw things he would never see
and did things he would never do.
He shivered,
he cried,
he sang for her,
and when the trance was over,
he was really weak.
He didn’t know what just happened;
“what the hell came over me?”
